The Lady's Spatula: A Conversation Between Friends

The woman sat before a desk, poring over an ancient tome. She raised her head as she heard the door open. “So, how did it go?” she asked the blonde woman, as she entered. The blonde was caked in dirt and scuffed all over but her wounds seemed superficial. She wiped most of the dust from her face and dropped a belt of knives on the nearest chair.

“More than we hoped. They managed to neutralize the threat, but they had to go through Bossing,” the blonde replied. Her voice was languid, with a quality that reminded the woman of honey. It still surprised the woman every time she heard it.

The woman tapped her fingers against the tome and sighed. “We anticipated that. I still don’t know if that man is incompetent or potentially one of the biggest threats to the Pentacle but if he managed to get a slice of the pie, the eventual implications to his career can only make watching him easier. Did they locate the Hallow?”

“No, just confirmed our suspicions of its general location…and who owns it.”

She shook her head. “I can’t believe Devilgrass of all people would stumble upon that place, even if he is Acanthus. Still, our accounts should be balanced after this and we have the added bonus of strengthening the Consilium’s position against the Free Council, even if only just a little. Losing our advantage with the ciphers is at least worth that much…and I’m sure that we can regain that given enough time.”

“What of the other mission?”

“I’m still here, aren’t I?”

The woman smiled. “Yes. Come, get cleaned up. I promised you dinner out. We need a small break. There is still much work to be done.”
